Flea’s, ticks, and mosquito’s are especially bad now during these hot summer months. We have tried the prescription flea capsules on the back of the neck and while they work pretty good for about two weeks, after that they are not very effective. Also, due to of all the dangerous chemicals that they are made of you are not supposed to reapply them more than once a month. Essential oils have become a daily part of my everyday life and they have some amazing capabilities. So I came up with this essential oil flea bomb for dogs and cats!
After doing some research on essential oils that repel pests like fleas and mosquito’s I found a batch that is pretty effective. Plus it smells great! Be sure to place some in a spray bottle and spray their bedding well too. Pet bedding can be a hot spot for flea activity. You can make this same recipe with water instead but I like the almond oil because it is good for their skin. Another benefit of using almond oil is it seems to cling and stay on their coat longer than water does.

Essential Oil Flea Bomb Ingredients:
- 4 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
- 4 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 4 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 1 oz. Almond Oil
- Small dropper, preferably dark glass like this one.
Essential Oil Flea Bomb Instructions:
1. Fill glass bottle to curved neck with almond oil.
2. Add each of your essential oils.
3. Shake bottle well, and shake before each use.
Essential Oil Flea Bomb Tips:
How much you put on your dog or cat will depend on its size, for a little dog I put ½ to ¾ dropper along their spine between shoulder blades, rub it in just a bit.
You are only using a few drops of essential oil from each of these 4 scents, and your 1 oz. dropper bottle will last for anywhere from 6-12 applications, a one time prescription costs about the same as all the oils ($25-$30). This is a pretty cost effective solution and it smells amazing!
We hope this Essential Oil Flea Bomb will help keep your dogs and cats flea free!

We now know how to make the repellant. How do you apply it to the dog? Thank you and awesome tip btw. Paul Barstow

It says to put a 1/2 dropper (for little dogs) down the spine. My question is how often can you use it?

How often should I put the solution?

If they start scratching themselves, then it’s time to repeat the treatment. Don’t forget to treat the area they frequent as well. There are some very effective home-made flea powders out there as well. The best I’ve found is a combination of Baking Soda and Salt!

I found that 5 drops of the oils makes this much more effective! I have 4 cats, and apply this about every 14 days, or whenever you see them start to scratch themselves again.
Make sure to shake it well before applying, and try to get it down under their fur (like taking a comb and parting it, then applying the bomb). It appears to work within minutes!
You can also put a few drops of this (or make it into a spray) on their bedding or perches. At first, the scent may drive them off, but soon they’ll be back using them, and much more comfortable.

Thank you so much for the suggestion I have five little dogs and I really don’t like to use some name brand flea killers for the dangerous to pets but I used a little olive oil and I mixed it with tea tree oil and peppermint oil as well as citronella and some other oils and I put it on them seemed to do pretty good especially my dogs running around knowing that they had fleas and now they want it off. I look forward to a day where we will not be bothered by such pest.
