Looking for a dog toy storage solution? Make this fun DIY Dog Toy Box! I have an old basket in the corner that we toss the dog’s toys in but I wanted something a little nicer, and the kids were looking for a new craft project. Anytime the kids can be involved is a big plus, it keeps them busy and gives them a sense of pride to see their artwork on display. I wanted it to be dog themed but still match my décor (and the dog bed we made here). So we headed to Goodwill to do a little scouting for an upcycling project that would fit our needs. I located one of those old crates for cd’s. Remember those? For $3.50, and a bag of unfinished wood knobs for $1.00 (you can find these at Home Depot too). We raided our craft stash for acrylic paint, and a puppy friendly scrapbook paper to finish it off.
You could use any wooden box, or basket to make a similar one, even small fabric covered diaper box for a larger dog would be cute in your living room. You can personalize it with your pups name or even decoupage their picture right on the box- print a photo on plain computer paper for best results and follow the modge podge directions below.

DIY Dog Toy Box Directions:
Spread out newspaper to protect your work surface, chose your paint color and paint the entire surface inside and out. ( We did not paint the bottom since it would not be visible) Paint wooden knobs the same or a contrasting color. Allow paint to dry completely.
Our crate had words and a photo engraved into the wood on either end, I didn’t want to mess with evening it with wood putty and sanding so we cut a piece of scrapbook paper big enough to cover and modge podged it.
To make homemade modge podge mix equal parts school glue and water. Paint mixture on surface to be covered, apply paper and a thick coat over the paper, paying close attention to the edges to seal them, it will dry clear. Add paper anywhere you want to add a bit of pattern to. To mimic the dots on my paper I dipped the end of a paintbrush handle in a coordinating color and dabbed on my dots.
Flip over your box and apply a thick blob of hot glue to each corner, press your knobs into the hot glue firmly. Allow to set for 1 minute and flip your box back over. You could also secure your knobs by drilling screws through the bottom of the wood, again I wanted simple- since there wont be a lot of weight, and it wont be moved around much the hot glue will hold it wonderfully.
