Do you know what foods are bad for dogs? There are several foods dogs should not eat. Today’s post is all about making sure we are not giving our dogs harmful foods.
To most people their dogs are part of their family. We only want what is best for our pets. Did you know that without even knowing you could be harming your dog? Do you ever give your dog some of the food you are eating? Are you 100% positive the food you are sharing with your pet is safe?
What Foods are Bad for Dogs?
Avocado – Avocado contains persin which is not dangerous to humans unless you are allergic to avocados. However, persin can be extremely toxic to dogs. It has long been said that giving your dog an avocado will help give the coat a nice shine. This may or may not be true and if you want to use avocado’s there are specialty dog foods that contain an avocado substance.
Onions & Garlic – Both onions and garlic can be extremely harmful to your dog. Fresh, dried or even powdered seasoning can destroy a dogs red blood cells. Destroying the blood cells can make your dog anemic.
Caffeine – You should never under any circumstances give dogs caffeine. In large doses caffeine can be deadly to dogs. Please don’t take a chance and let’s face it your dog doesn’t need coffee!
Chocolate – Almost every pet owner knows that chocolate is a big no-no for dogs. However, are you aware of the types of chocolate that are the most deadly? Dark chocolate and unsweetened baking chocolate are the most deadly. You should take ever precaution to ensure your dog does not ever eat chocolate.
Bones – Most people think it is perfectly fine to give their dog bones from food they have cooked. You should avoid giving your dog bones at all costs. Bones from meat you cooked in your home could easily splinter causing harm to their internal organs. Bones are also a big choking hazard! If you want to give your dog a bone to enjoy, get one at the pet store.

Great information! We have 2 dogs and they will eat anything and everything if they can but we try to limit what they get and if they get into stuff they shouldnt. Occasionally one of the kids or babies will share food with them though :)
