If you want to bathe your pet to get rid of fleas, but want to control what ingredients go on your pet, you will definitely want to try and make your own Homemade Flea Shampoo!
Use natural ingredients as much as possible and know that you are keeping your pet safer.
There are many types of shampoos at the store that are helpful in removing fleas from your pets, but many of the ingredients have been proven to be toxic to your pet, or can cause horrible side effects.
It is so simple and inexpensive to make your own at home, and you can customize the scents.
This Homemade Flea Shampoo only has 3 ingredients!
Homemade Flea Shampoo Supplies:
Flea Shampoo Recipe Ingredients:
- ¼ cup Castile Soap (like Dr. Bronners unscented mild baby soap)
- ½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar or regular Vinegar
- 1 cup hot water
Tools Needed:
*If you want to add a scent to your pet’s shampoo, use 100% natural essential oil scents.
- Add 1 Tbsp. of your favorite scent to the mixture.
How to make homemade flea shampoo?
- Combine castile soap, apple cider vinegar and water together thoroughly.
- This makes a nice gift when put in a mason jar. You can also use a squirt bottle like the one linked to above so you don’t have to worry about the mason jar breaking.
- Shake flea shampoo mixture before each use.
Homemade Flea Dip Bathing Instructions:
- Apply from the top of your dog’s head to the tip of their tail, scrubbing it in well.
- Allow to sit on your pet for 5 minutes.
- Use a lice comb- you can pick these up for a dollar or two at pharmacies or beauty supply stores, comb fleas off your dog right into the water. Rinse very well, several times. Scrub their fur dry.
- This lasts for several days, and will need to be repeated, but since it is natural it is safer to reapply more often than a chemical laden wash.

Oh, I love to see natural versions of this! I had a puppy who ended up with a terrible rash after using a commercial flea shampoo.

We’re getting a puppy in January. Our plan this time around is to do as much homemade stuff as possible – treats, toys, etc. I don’t know if I’ll go as far as to make the food too, but this idea of homemade flea shampoo willc ome in handy this spring.

I used this on my 4 cats and I can’t believe how many fleas were floating in the tub. Commercial flea shampoo didn’t seem to work.
