Did you know you can make your own dog leash by recycling old t-shirts? I really like how our DIY Braided Dog Leash turned out, simple and cute. Repurposing something around the house for another use is a great way to save money, too. This kind of leash works best for smaller dogs and puppies, as you would need a more sturdy leash for larger stronger dogs. This is a easy diy project that kids would also like to help out with, too! It could be a fun homemade gift idea from the kids to their pup for a puppy bday or a Christmas present, etc.
DIY Braided Dog Leash Supplies Needed:
Old t-shirts (can be the same color, but looks nicer using multiple colors)
A leash clasp (to hook to your dog’s collar).
Hot glue gun (optional)
DIY Braided Dog Leash Instructions:
- Cut your old t-shirts into long strips.
- Detach a leash clasp from an old leash. We had an extra cheap leash and used the clasp for our DIY Dog leash. You can also just buy a set of leash clasps if you wanted.
- Place 3 strips (can be different colors, or the same), through the clasp and tie knots until it is secure.
- Start braiding the fabric strips together, nice and tight.
- As you start to reach the end of your braid, tie more fabric strips using knots to the ends of their corresponding colors and continue braiding until you get the leash to be as long as you would like it.
- Then loop the leash at the end to fit your hand for the perfect fit for you to hold while walking your dog.
- Tip: If you want to reinforce the ends and knots, you can use a hot glue gun to make it even more secure.
